Life is too short to live in a space that is no longer working for you and your family. Why settle for a kitchen that you don’t want to spend time in when your dream kitchen is both possible and very affordable?
We recently completed a kitchen renovation project in the Calgary community of Scenic Acres with our friend and Calgary designer, Sheri Bruneau, of Get it Together. We have worked with Sheri on multiple projects, and we always love Sheri’s designs. Check out our last Sencillo project with Sheri here.
Project Background
When Sheri approached us with this new project, the clients were looking to give their kitchen a much-needed refresh. The kitchen was very dated and dark with typical 80’s oak cabinets. Storage, livability and function were also significant concerns that prompted this client to seek a modern update.

Client Needs
Storage was undoubtedly a high priority for this kitchen renovation. The homeowners were looking to give their kitchen a modern update on a budget and improve the flow and functionality of their space. Good quality custom cabinetry was certainly going to go a long way toward achieving all that they were looking for!
Cabinetry Details
The finished product is equal parts stunning, comfortable and inviting. In many ways, this new kitchen design is similar to one of our favourite curated styles: the Urban Farmhouse, complete with the large farm-style apron sink.
In this space, we installed two different tones for the cabinets. The uppers were finished in a crisp white, matching the tile backsplash and countertops, while the lowers were finished in rustic wood grain to complement the existing laminate floor. The oil-rubbed bronze pulls on the lowers pair well with the wood, while the crystal knobs on the uppers add a bit of whimsy, which just goes to show that you can have a little fun with your space and add some “bling”!
As storage was high on this homeowner’s list, we included many practical custom storage options into this modern kitchen. We added ample drawer space and incorporated two blind corner cabinets with swivel out organizers. This allows the homeowners to see everything stored in these cabinets and find precisely what they are looking for. No more frustrating searching or digging through deep cabinets.
Another custom feature that we included was the pullout tabletop that adds extra counter space underneath the microwave, adding a convenient “landing area” when taking items out of the microwave.
