It doesn’t matter if your kitchen is enormous, or barely larger than a pantry. Your kitchen is the hub of your home, the center of your daily life, and it is what ties your house together. It is where families gather to enjoy good food and friends gather to share in good company. It is the most frequented area in the home, and it should be cherished as such.
We are excited to share a new project we recently completed in March 2020. We teamed up with our friend Marika Deliyannides from House Crush to bring the kitchens in a heritage home in Mount Royal back to life, and we couldn’t be happier with the result!
Project Background
This character home in Mount Royal is over 100 years old, and it was starting to show its age. The kitchen had old, inefficient cabinetry and outdated appliances, as did the basement rental suite. The powder room also had a large and unsightly cast iron plumbing fixture.

Client Needs
The home was going to be renovated for sale, so the focus of the project was to achieve a stylish modern look at a great price. This is something we pride ourselves on at Sencillo!
Cabinetry Details
The renovated space is a great blend of traditional and modern. In the upstairs kitchen, we installed matte black cabinets, which look very striking in combination with the crisp white tile and countertops. A simple custom hood with a built-in blower is highlighted with Brucciato (wood grain) trim, and this element is picked up again in the built-in display shelves. The sleek gold handles complement the gold faucet and really pop with the black cabinetry. The existing wood floors were refinished, adding warmth to the space. The new kitchen is not only clean and bright but also warm and inviting, with plenty of storage.
In the powder room, we installed floor to ceiling Brucciato panelling to cover the unsightly plumbing. A wall-hung toilet keeps the space clean and modern, while vintage touches such as the vessel sink with dark bronze tap give a hat tip to the historical character of the home.
The kitchen in the basement suite was drab and tiny but has now been transformed with sleek new cabinetry, bright white counters, new paint and durable vinyl plank flooring. The tenant is thrilled with her new space!

Like all of our projects, we had so much fun modernizing this heritage home. We love what we do, and we love making a client and the future homeowner happy with a beautiful, modern, and functional home.
