How to Re-Create Our Favourite Curated Styles: Industrial

Industrial

The Industrial style draws its inspiration from old converted warehouses with their brick walls and rough-hewn wood beams. The look is a mix of old and new, featuring rough textures like reclaimed wood, exposed brick, and antique iron.

If you are interested in recreating this curated style into your home, here are some ideas to get you started:

Cabinets:

The most popular choice for cabinets in the Industrial style is typically slab door cabinets. One of our preferred looks is to pair the cabinets with chunky black or iron handles.
You can view all of our favourite handles and pulls that we have hand-selected to match the Industrial style on our website.

With the Industrial style, there is an emphasis on an open concept and floorplan, so you will often see a mix of closed and open shelving.

We adore this mix of open and closed shelving on this two-toned cabinetry. The black and wood grain is a truly stunning combination:

Some of the Sencillo finishes that go well with the Industrial style include Taupe Grey, Stone Grey, Lava, Jackson Pine, Palomino and Tobacco Halifax Oak. You can view all of these on our finishes page on our website and work with our in-house designers to pick which finish will match best in your home.

Colours & Finishes:

The colours used in this style are often dark and sensual but may be contrasted with clean, crisp whites. We recommend mixing different deep colours and materials in your home, such as heavily textured wood and rustic wood tones, dark iron, black tile, and brick.

We adore the dark colours of this kitchen and the mix of stone and wood countertops with black fixtures and open shelving:

Some of our favourite colours to consider: the sensual black of Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black SW 6258, the soft tones of Behr T15-2 Seared Grey, the beautiful grey of Benjamin Moore 2124-10 Wrought Iron, and the crisp white of Sherwin-Williams Extra White SW 7006.

The countertop options in an Industrial style home include stone, stainless steel, and even butcher block. Stone countertops would be a great addition to any home, as they will last you a life-time. They are also very low-maintenance and will be resistant to the everyday spills and accidents in your busy family kitchen or bathroom. Butcher block countertops are also very durable, affordable and will give your kitchen a warm look and feel.

We love how this kitchen combined a butcher block dropped bar seating with the dark stone countertop:

For the backsplash in your kitchen or bathroom, the options are plentiful! You can go with either the classic white subway tiles, continue the theme of exposed brick, introduce sleek black tile, or utilize concrete.
Look at how beautifully this concrete backsplash suits this kitchen with the exposed beams and brick:

One of our preferred options for flooring that matches most of our favourite curated styles is luxury vinyl plank for its warmth, affordability and versatility in its many colours and finishes. As well, this flooring option is durable, water-resistant, long-lasting, and low-maintenance, making it an ideal choice for your home.
For the Industrial look, we suggest dark hardwood, or dark luxury vinyl plank flooring for that well-worn, lived-in feel.

Fixtures:

Consider black or oil-rubbed bronze for the fixtures, faucets and hardware in your kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms.
For this home bar, the oil-rubbed bronze faucets perfectly complement the stone countertop and the exposed brick walls:

When shopping for lighting fixtures for the Industrial style, one of the most popular looks is cage pendant lights with exposed bulbs.

Take some inspiration from these beautiful and intricate lights to match the style in your home:

Décor & Appliances:

For the Industrial style, there is an emphasis on function as well as style, and displaying building materials that are typically hidden like beams and exposed brick and pipe. When you are decorating your home, we recommend choosing décor items like worn leather chairs or pillows, wire baskets and or cage lights, reclaimed wood accents, and dark metal treasures and hardware.

When choosing your appliances, we suggest sleek, modern appliances in black or stainless-steel to blend into the aesthetic of your space, like this beautiful kitchen:
