We are so thrilled that our little family here at Sencillo is continuing to grow! Being a small local business, it’s a big deal when we bring a new team member on, and it’s crucial we find the perfect fit that combines the ideal skills and personality that we are looking for.
With the addition of our CNC Machine, we are taking a huge leap from drafting and building everything manually to automating our design and production. As a result, we are so excited to welcome Lidija Nasteva, our new Cabinetry and CAD Designer!
“The software and equipment are complex, and we needed someone who is experienced and has strong attention to detail to ensure that the transition goes smoothly,” says Jolanda Slagmolen-Flores, founder of Sencillo Cabinets. “Lidija will play a crucial role in working with the new software (Cabinet Vision) to draft all of our cabinetry projects and prepare them to be produced on the new CNC cabinet making machine. As a result, she will be helping us build cabinetry more quickly and efficiently.”
Lidija comes to us with 15+ years of design experience within the industry. She began her career in North Macedonia where she completed her cabinetmaking program in the early 1990s. In 2002, Lidija moved to Canada where she spent the next few years learning English and eventually landing a job at Denca Cabinets, where she spent the next 4.5 years mastering her craft. Over the next few years, she began to learn about programming, CNC machines, drafting and designing as she is very interested in keeping up with the technological advances that the industry continues to provide.
Outside of work her hobbies range from heading outdoors and enjoying a crisp ski or kayak, depending on the season, or reading the next New York Times bestseller as she enjoys some downtime on the weekend.
Lidija began her journey with Sencillo 5 months ago when she stated in a drafting position, learning the ins and outs of the new CNC software on the side.
“The opportunity to learn was what initially attracted me to this opposition,” says Lidija. “Custom work is special, and every project is unique, giving me a new challenge every day.”
And Lidija has welcomed every challenge with open arms!
“The Team is excellent! When you work for a family business you’re treated like family,” says Lidija. “Everyone is so deeply connected and passionate about the work, and I feel very appreciated and valued. Everyone brings something unique to the table, which allows us to learn from each other.”
One of the things that we value here at Sencillo is the opportunity to break the stigma around women in trades. We provide our team members with the opportunity to work and grow in the industry, regardless of gender.
“Women have not traditionally considered the jobs in trades as opportunities,” says Jolanda. “The work is interesting, challenging, and in high demand, and we have found that women make an invaluable contribution. They’re organized, thorough, and extremely passionate about their work.”
Despite the male dominance in the industry, Lidija has always been up for a new challenge and has been incredibly driven in her career. She loves growing as the industry grows, and we could not be more excited to be welcoming her as a permanent member of our team!
