If the holidays are stressing you out, it may be time to take a page from Marie Kondo's book, quite literally, to figure out what sparks joy and what doesn't. No one likes to admit that they’re feeling ‘Merry Stressmas,’ but the truth is anxiety is a major concern during the most wonderful time of the year.
Sencillo Cabinets is rooted in simplicity. We find beauty in the clean, uncluttered and uncomplicated. Trust us when we say you don't need to do more, buy more, or decorate more to invite the spirit of Christmas into your life—you need to do less.
Here are three things you can do this year to stress less and enjoy more this holiday season.
1. Rethink Traditions
Whether it's planning a family outing to pick out a tree, taking a themed photo for the Christmas card, decorating the house, or preparing a special meal, check your intentions.
Do you feel compelled to keep up with your family's rituals and traditions, or do you actually enjoy them? Are you doing them because you want to, and they make you happy, or because they have been passed on for generations? Remember, times have changed; women now make up half the workforce. Decide whether your traditions work for your family, enjoy the ones that do, and let go of the rest.
2. Review Past Pitfalls That Stress You Out
'Tis the season for overspending, overeating, over decorating and overdoing pretty much everything. Say yes to what brings you joy. Make a list of all of your "must-dos," but keep it short! Pare it down to what really matters the most.
If moving the Elf on the Shelf to a new room every day isn't doing it for you, stop! If your annual holiday party is leaving you (and your house) in shambles, cancel it! If the cookie exchange invites are piling up on your counter, throw them away! And most importantly, stop feeling guilty about not doing the things that are causing you stress. The holidays are meant to be enjoyed by everyone, and that includes you.
3. Reduce Gift Shopping Strain
It's about time you free yourself from Christmas consumerism. Don't you think? Gift giving can be extremely overwhelming financially. There's no shame in rethinking your gift-giving customs, or maybe even rethinking gift-giving altogether!
The holiday spirit can be felt through acts of service, homemade food, quality time, and special experiences. It doesn't have to be all about boxes wrapped up in pretty paper and pretty bows. Draw names, or better yet - give the gift of being truly present with your loved ones. For more unique non-stuff gift ideas, check out our guide!
