Project Reveal: One of Our Favourite Finishes is the Star of these Recent Projects

Mount Pleasant Home

When it comes to achieving the home of your dreams, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your sanity and blow your budget to make it happen. At Sencillo Cabinets, we believe that the custom cabinetry experience should be an affordable and stress-free process. Whether you're downsizing or upgrading, Sencillo can help you design a home with less — and more. More of what you love, less of what you don’t.

We are very excited to share a couple of new projects we have recently completed in various Calgary communities with our friend and Calgary designer, Julie Marwood, of Marwood Designs. We have worked with Julie on several projects with both the Casa Flores and Sencillo brand, and we are always thrilled with the final results.

Project Background

For the two most recent projects that we completed with Julie, there was a common material used in both: Natural Halifax Oak textured melamine.

Textured melamine is a fabulous material to use in cabinets as it is affordable, durable, and easy to look after. This popular material is also resistant to stains, moisture, and heat and is more abrasion-resistant than other types of cabinet material. The textured melamine also gives a stunning three-dimensional texture to your cabinets, mimicking the look and feel of wood.

Natural Halifax Oak is a gorgeous light wood grain colour and a striking style for your cabinets. This natural colour pairs well with whites, light greys, or beige tones, as you can see in the two projects we completed with Marwood Designs. The Natural Halifax Oak finish gives warmth to a room and is popular in contemporary styles and one of our favourite curated looks: the Urban Farmhouse style.

Client Needs

Storage was a high priority for both these projects. The homeowners were looking for a high end look on a budget and improve the flow and functionality of their space. Good quality custom cabinetry was certainly going to go a long way toward achieving all that they were looking for!

Julie Headshot

The Mount Pleasant custom home was designed to incorporate the perfect blend of warm details and contemporary lines and the second renovation project provided me with the unique opportunity to transform a 1970's bathroom into a truly exceptional, outdoor inspired, en-suite. When designing the custom home, it was important to me to incorporate a high level of design all the way from the floor plan and flow to space to materials and textural design elements. Jolanda was able to support my vision throughout the entire process, engineering beautiful cabinetry exactly as planned. Sencillo materials allowed us to stay on budget without sacrificing any design elements. For the en-suite renovation, the Sencillo cabinetry was utilized to highlight this modern masterpiece in a truly cost effective way. Often, the presence of water creates design limitations. However, due to its high level of moisture resistance, Sencillo's textured melamine line allowed us to seamlessly incorporate a butcher block top on the vanity. This accent was exactly the type of design feature needed to soften the strong floor to ceiling tile and stone elements.

Cabinetry Details

For these two projects, we matched the Natural Halifax Oak cabinets to the beautiful grey hues of the tile used throughout each bathroom. The floating bathroom cabinets were built with plenty of storage space in mind and were topped with crisp white stone countertops. The handless cabinets in both projects were paired with stainless steel faucets and fixtures throughout the room, which complements the style well.

For the built-in bar, the Natural Halifax Oak cabinets were also topped with crisp white stone countertops and completed with oil-rubbed bronze pulls. For the faucet, Julie picked out a classic stainless steel finish.

The built-in bar has an abundance of storage space, including a floating shelf that fits seamlessly with the counter-to-ceiling mirror.

We loved working on these projects with Julie, and we can’t wait to see what we tackle next with our friends at Marwood Design!
