Here at Sencillo Cabinets, we have created a brand that is rooted in simplicity. However, from many projects past, we are well aware of the chaos that a remodel can bring. The end result is meant to be a sleek, minimal, space-enhancing design, but getting to that stage is where the challenges lie.
There is no way around it, remodels can be tough. They can be relationship testing, pricy, and daunting, and it’s hard to envision the light at the end of the tunnel when you’re in the midst of it.
As remodelling experts, we have seen it all when it comes to custom home renovations. In our experience, you can never plan too much or be too prepared. There is never a guarantee that things will go according to plan, but at least you’ll have a contingency that you’ve thought through well in advance. The more prep you can do before the reno begins, the better.
Here are a few things to think about before you're remodeling begins!
Create a Plan
This can be concerning where you will cook during your remodel, to where you plan to store your frequently used items from the room. We recommend setting up a temporary space for cooking and cleaning and finding storage that will be easily accessible, whether it be in the basement, garage, or temporary storage space. Even doing some pre-reno meal prep can give you one less thing to worry about when you’re up to your ears in teardowns.
Lastly, set up a flexible budget. It’s always wise to over prepare in this department that there are no costly surprises that put a damper on your remodel along the way.
Declutter
Begin by having a clear vision of the end result. Populate your Pinterest board, sift through magazines, and peruse Instagram. This is so you not only know what elements are getting redone, but how you want to style them when it’s all said and done. For example, when your custom cabinetry is installed, the last thing you want to do is stuff it with items you never intend on using. Once you can visualize this, work on decluttering before the process even begins. The more stuff you take out, means the less you’ll be bringing back in.
Get Organized
Think about everyone’s daily routines and how they can be accommodated. This is where meal prep and organizing the flow of a temporary space will become key. Remodels can be a true test on families and relationships, so planning in advance will help them go as smooth as possible.
Hire a Professional to Get You Started
You might be a do-it-yourselfer, but even having someone come in and help you with the initial planning stages can be a huge asset. They know the drill and can help orchestrate your project so that all the pieces fit together and run in a logical sequence. In the long run, this will save you time, money, and a huge headache.
