Our Story

My name is Jolanda Slagmolen-Flores and I am the founder and co-owner of Sencillo Cabinets.

In 2006, my husband Humberto and I founded Casa Flores Cabinetry. For over 11 years we have had the opportunity to work on many stunning projects, and it has been incredibly gratifying to work with so many great clients to transform their homes with beautiful custom cabinetry.

But as I entered my mid-40’s I felt unfulfilled. Perhaps it was a mid-life crisis, or maybe it was related to a societal shift towards focusing not on what we have but how we live. I had spent the past two decades accumulating possessions, and rather than enjoying them, they were weighing me down. At the same time my life as a wife, mother, and business owner had become incredibly complex. The weight of the responsibility and all the “stuff” was not only emotionally draining, but was manifesting itself on my bathroom scale. Some of my favourite times were when we hooked up our trailer and hit the road. It was incredibly freeing to leave everything behind. I realized I had to make a change.

As I began to focus on simplifying and decluttering my home, my work, and my life, I began to appreciate the important role that our products play in this process. Well-designed cabinetry makes life easier and controls the clutter that weighs you down psychologically. However there were really only two options for purchasing cabinetry: you could purchase custom cabinetry and get exactly what you wanted, but the turnaround times were long and the price was prohibitive for many. Or you could purchase pre-manufactured cabinets, but the colours and sizes were limited and the buying experience was often extremely frustrating.

I realized that by simplifying the design, construction, and materials, we could offer beautiful cabinetry, and build it quickly and affordably. People wouldn't have to settle for pre-manufactured cabinets that were not quite what they wanted. Because when you downsize or declutter you should only keep the things that make your life more enjoyable and never settle for something that is just "okay".

And so Sencillo Cabinets was born as a division of Casa Flores Cabinetry. Our mission is to offer a custom buying experience and beautiful, well-designed products that make life easier, at price that is affordable.
